SITEMAP.NET Version 0.5.2 BETA - June 14, 2005
SITEMAP.NET is intended for users who have an intermediate to advanced understanding of their website and the server it is on.
- Download SITEMAP.NET
Here
- Save the zip file to a conveniant location on your computer.
- Extract the files to the root directory of your website
on your computer.
For Example:
If your local website folder is c:\websites\example.com\
then extract the files to that folder.
- Open the SiteMap.Config file in the SiteMapdotNet folder
using Notepad or a similar text editor. Complete the following
steps to configure SITEMAP.NET:
- base_path - This is the web path to the folder
you want SITEMAP.NET to crawl. By leaving it at the
default "/" it will crawl your entire website.
- sitemap_path - This is the web path to the
folder you want to save your sitemap file too.
By leaving it empty it will save the sitemap file to
the location of the base_path. If you
do not use your base_path as the location for your sitemap
make sure you copy it to that location before submitting
to Google otherwise some pages may be considered invalid.
- extensions - This lists the file extensions
included in the sitemap, to add additional extensions
enter them in the format "...<extension>,<new
extension>" This format is a comma
delimited list with no spaces.
- default_file - Future addition.
- frontpage - Use to ignore FrontPage extension
folders on the server. Set the ignore attribute to false
to include these folders.
- aspnet_client - Use to ignore ASPNET Client
folder, set ignore attribute to false to include these
folders.
- directories - This is a list of directories
that SITEMAP.NET will ignore. This is useful to eliminate
any administration or include folders you do not want
included. You can include all directories by setting
the include attribute to false, otherwise it will exclude
all folders listed. To add additional directories enter
them in the format "...<directory>,<new
directory>" This format is a comma
delimited list with no spaces.
- log_directory - This lists the directory
in which all of the log files are stored. You can include
the log files by setting the include attribute to true,
otherwise set it to false to exclude. The full_logical_path
attribute is for when you know the actual disk logical
path to the log folder (For Example: c:\logfiles\w3svc1)
otherwise enter in the partial address to the log files
(For Example: logfiles\w3svc1) and set the full_logical_path
to false. SITEMAP.NET will only parse through W3C format
logs at this point.
- permissions - Enter in the FTP username and
password attached to your web account, this will allow
SITEMAPS.NET to write the file and look in all of your
folders for your log files. NOTE: If ASP.Net
is not enabled for your web account this information
is visible to regular web users, with ASP.NET enabled
it is not visible in most cases.
- defaults - Set the default change frequency
and priority to be sent to Google.
- changefreq - Use one of the following: always,
hourly, daily, weekly, monthly, yearly
- priority - Use a number between 0.0 and 1.0, note
this does not change how Google will rank you.
- Open your FTP application and upload the "bin" and "sitemapdotnet"
folders from your local website folder to your web server.
- Open your browser and navigate to your the "sitemapdotnet/runme.aspx"
page on your website. For Example: http://www.example.com/sitemapdotnet/runme.aspx
Note: The runme page may take awhile to load depending
on the number of pages and the number of log files to open.
- Submit the sitemap to Google
Sitemaps.
